The display network is one of the tools that can be used within Google Adwords. These ads are shown on various websites who are in the Google network and the ads can be in several different forms: text, image, video, or some kind of rich media format. The ads are based on certain data about the specific user, the website in which the ads appear and different keywords used. They are targeted to relevant website users.

Using the display network is different from using the Adwords search network. When using Google's search network to target ads, your users are looking for something specific. They have created a search query. On the display network, they are browsing around different websites and the expecations are different in which they are not necessarily looking for what you are offering. The display network is very similar to banner ads and text ads which are placed on a website. Costs per click tend to be much lower on the display network and click through rates tend to be much lower as well.

When managing a pay per click campaign, a good rule of thumb is to keep campaigns, accounts and budgets separate for the search network and display network. This way your company is able to guage the performance of each network evenly and make decisions as to which network is better for your ppc campaign. The display network is not always a good pay per click option as sometimes tends to show subpar results.

Why It's Important

It is important to know the difference between the search network and the display network in your pay per click campaigns. A ppc management company will know how to maximize both networks for your company and also figure out whether or not the display network is right for your pay per click campaign.
