FAQs about SEO

What exactly is SEO and what does it stand for?

SEO, which stands for search engine optimization, is the process of preparing a website to achieve high (organic) rankings in popular search engines. The SEO process involves many factors and tasks which include onsite and offsite optimization to make a website relevant to a topic and important in comparison to other similar webpages.

What is the difference between SEO and Pay-Per-Click?

SEO will help you reach the top of the search engines based on a website's natural relevancy and importance, and it takes much longer than a sponsored pay per click ad. The proper term here would be called "organic" search engine optimization. These are the search engine results which show up in the middle of a results page, not the right hand side of the page. With organic SEO, you don't pay for visits to your website. Your visitors visit because they love your website.

Pay per click ads are the "sponsored ads" which show up on the right hand side of your google search results. Each time your ad is clicked, you are charged. You are not charged when your ad shows up on the page, only if somebody clicks on it. A google adwords pay per click campaign will get you up and running quickly compared to an SEO campaign.

Why is SEO better than traditional methods of marketing?

Simply put, there are potential customers actively looking for your company. They are not being bombarded with in-your-face commercials, annoying flashing website banners that they did not ask for and telemarketing solicitations they were not expecting. Simply put, customers are looking for service via keywords and this already translates into a warm lead - because they were looking for it to begin with. Search engine optimization simplifies the sales process and allows more targeted leads to come through to your business.

Why is it sometimes necessary that SEO is an ongoing (month to month) process?

SEO is an ongoing, monthly process for two reasons. The first reason is because competitor websites are continuing to monitor their SEO success in order to keep their websites ranked high. Without some kind of management and monitoring of an SEO campaign, you are almost guaranteed to eventually lose the SEO rank that was so hard to attain.

The second reason is because the search engines (especially Google) are continuously changing their own processes and algorithms. What works today may not work 3 or 4 months from now. Search engines are constantly changing what is relevant to their database and your website needs to be kept up to date otherwise the SEO rank will surely be lost.

If we don't continue monthly maintenance of our website, are we guaranteed to lose our SEO rank?

It is strongly recommended that ongoing maintenance is continued for websites in order to maintain an consistent SEO rank. There are many key factors which determine whether or not you will lose your rank over time if management is not continued. While there is no guarantee that you will lose your rank over time, there is a very good chance that it will be lost, especially for very competitive keywords. Eventually, new competitors will move into the search engine market if they are more aggressively pursuing keywords.

Will you need to redesign my website before you start the SEO process?

Not necessarily. Sometimes websites are designed poorly (visually) or developed poorly (in the backend code) and it makes our job much more difficult to perform SEO work. If this is the case, we will make recommendations on what to do and what costs are involved.

There may be instances where your website will need to be redesigned and redeveloped in order to achieve maximum results. We will make this assessment before any work is done and you will know the costs involved before any work is done.

Can your SEO process guarantee top placement on search engines?

Unfortunately, we cannot 100% guarantee (nobody can, beware of SEO companies who say they can guarantee a specfic placement) top placement or any specific placement on any search engines. Search engines are continuing to revise and tweak their algorithms and requirements which means we have to continue to research, revise and tweak our own SEO processes in order to keep up. For example, the only people who control Google's search engine are Google. But our results are proven and our SEO track record is successful. Here is a guarantee that we can make: A website that is not search engine optimized will not be as successful as a website which is optimized.

Why does SEO sometimes take such a long time to see results?

The amount of time it takes to see SEO results depends much on the amount of index-update time of the search engines (anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks, which is out of our control). Since guarantees cannot be made by us or anybody else, consistent testing is required which can also take some time. First page ranking may not always happen with the first try, or even the second try. When running a successful SEO campaign, sometimes a trial and error process is required since we are not in full control of the search engines. And since no two businesses are exactly alike, sometimes consistent testing is required to figure out what works best for your small business. Our SEO services and processes are tailored to each business's needs and we continue working on your website in order to achieve first page ranking.

Can you guarantee me X amount of phone calls per week before an SEO campaign starts?

NO. And neither can anybody else. It is impossible to initially guage how much business an SEO campaign will receive. We cannot predict the future and neither can anyone else. If we could predict the future, we would have won the lottery a long time ago.

Our process and work is continually adjusted based on how well a particular SEO campaign is performing. We can, however, make reasonable assumptions and estimates based on the past history of an SEO campaign that we have put together. But it is impossible to predict any results before a campaign starts.

Can I develop an SEO campaign myself?

Absolutely. Check out our professional SEO tips before starting an SEO campaign.

Do you know everything there is to know about SEO?

No, and if any SEO company tells you they do, beware. The SEO process is always evolving; search engine algorithms are constantly changing, user's search trends are ever-shifting, and website technology is continuously advancing. We are constantly studying, practicing, thinking and doing all in an effort to stay ahead of the SEO curve, and so far we've been successful at doing exactly that.

Are there any specific types of websites that you do not perform SEO work on?

Yes. We do not perform work on any type of adult related websites, any sites relating to or containing any sort of illegal material or activity, hate sites, affiliate sites or sites that we consider spam. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Will you continue working with my website if we don't see results?

Yes, we will continue to work with your website until we achieve the desired search engine rank. We know it can sometimes take time to see results from the organic SEO process and we will dedicate the necessary time to get the work done.
