If the AIO Visibility Index is up, non-brand clicks are flat, and branded impressions are up, that usually means AI Overviews are compressing clicks while still introducing and validating your brand. That pattern should not be read as failure. It should be read as influence moving upstream.
If AI Overviews appear on most consideration queries and competitors are cited while you are absent, your next move is not “write more blog posts.” It is to build or upgrade decision assets such as best-for hubs, comparisons, integration scope pages, pricing model pages, and security truth pages. This is a strategic recommendation grounded in how Google describes fan-out and supporting source diversity.
If citation rate improves but your brand is described incorrectly, then the issue is not presence. It is entity clarity. That is when category definition, constraint blocks, pricing truth pages, integration boundaries, and off-site profile alignment become the next priority. This is an inference based on how AI systems reuse supporting material across multiple sources.
Best practices that keep the reporting credible
Keep the query panel stable. Report by awareness, consideration, and demand instead of blending everything into one average. Keep a monthly list of the top cited domains so leadership can see which sources Google is using in your category.
